Our mission is to bring the healing and restorative power of art to children facing medical challenges.
The goal is to create a safe place for children who are suffering from childhood illness to create art. This is their time to explore, play, think, dwell, escape and create. Our children will have opportunities monthly to dive into art. Their works will be displayed for all to view. Grier's Gallery believes strongly in promoting healing, transforming the hospital experience and bringing a bit of joy to our patients and families. Visiting artists will host small workshops offering jewelry design, collage design, sculpting, community painting and creative writing. Self expression is power.
Our intent for Grier's Gallery is to:
- Create an ‘Artists in Residence’ program at Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital and Blume Hematology & Oncology Clinic. We want to instill long-term appreciation for the arts to the children we serve. Grier’s Gallery will create a program using local volunteer artists as guides and inspiration for children to find healing through the creative arts. Grier’s Gallery intends to normalize the hospital environment and facilitate some relief for parents and families by providing educational art experiences.
- Honor the legacy of Grier Christenbury by creating and naming a space at Hemby Grier’s Gallery and maintaining a rotating art installation from the products of the Artists in Residence program.
- Grier’s Gallery will consider annual disbursements to non-profit organizations that support pediatric illness in the Charlotte community, upon a vote from the Grier’s Gallery Advisory Committee.
It's been almost a year since we've lost our Grier Christenbury and we are opening this gallery, Grier's Gallery, to high five his spirit, his legacy, and the ongoing passion to comfort children and parents throughout their battle in kicking pediatric illnesses to the curb!
